Big air in WA rocks the net

A spectacular online video of BMX wild boy Danny Campbell riding on, around and over Wave Rock has proved a tourism gold mine with about 250,000 hits worldwide.

It still attracts about 1000 viewers a day but has raised concerns from the local shire that others might try to copy his antics.

Campbell, 24, known for his "big air jumps", made the footage over three days last month with Melbourne action sports website InfinityList and German Mercedes-Benz magazine mb!

Artistic director Jesse Davison said the rock "could not have been shot any more beautifully".

Shire of Kondinin chief executive Peter Webster said the video should boost tourism but the filmmakers should have got permission from the council.

"The first we heard of it was when we saw it online," he said.

"I guess we are a little concerned that other riders will attempt to do the same stunts and bikes and tourists walking around the rock may not mix."

Mr Davison did not expect others to copy Campbell's stunts because some required "a professional level of skill".

"You would have to be a little bit crazy if you attempted some of the things that Danny did without proper experience," he said.

Local businesswoman Sheenagh Collins said the video was a terrific boon and there had been no copycat riders.

Campbell could not be contacted yesterday but in a recent interview, the NSW rider said the shoot, the rock and visiting WA for the first time were amazing.
