Police have arrested a motorcyclist who interrupted a State Government election announcement outside Clarkson police station last week.

Last Friday morning, Premier Colin Barnett had just finished pledging 720 new police officers over four years when a rider mounted the kerb and skidded along the station’s front lawn.

He then did a lap around the block and allegedly sped away towards Marmion Avenue with police cars in hot pursuit.

Police spokesman Sam Dinnison said a man from Butler was arrested yesterday afternoon in relation to the chase and a string of other allegations.

“Clarkson detectives have charged a man in relation to a number of serious incidents in the Clarkson area,” he said.

“We had been investigating previous reports of someone on a motorcycle pointing a gun at people.

“A person matching that description was involved in an aborted pursuit near Clarkson police station on Friday.”

The man is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court today.

He is facing charges including being armed to cause fear, attempted aggravated armed robbery, reckless driving, failing to stop and no authority to drive.
