Replacement buses were organised between Fremantle and the Showground, but services have now returned to normal.

A Transperth spokeswoman said a signal failure caused by an electricity fault near Loch street was to blame for the shutdown.

Trains between Loch Street and Perth were unaffected.

Power failures in the area added to the transport woes.

Police report that the boom gates are down on the Fremantle Port train line on Tydeman Road, near Port Beach Road, and that Western Power is attending. Traffic lights are also out at Port Beach Road at Tydeman Road, Stirling Highway at McCabe Street and Stirling Highway at Alfred Road.

Western Power says about 420 customers in North Fremantle are without power.
