Cott student to take on world

North Cottesloe Primary School student Theo van Schie, 12, is one of just eight students from Australia chosen to be ambassadors for the biggest online education event in the world.

The World Education Games will be held over three days next month to test students' skills in literacy, maths and science, as well as to raise money for children's charity UNICEF.

More than 5.9 million students from 30,000 schools in more than 200 countries are expected to compete in the live, multi-player online challenges in which they have to answer as many questions as possible in 60 seconds.

As WA ambassador, Theo joined Australia's other seven ambassadors in Sydney last week to celebrate its host city status and launch the target of raising enough money to provide 1000 UNICEF "school-in-a-box" kits. Theo, a keen surfer and water polo player, said the best part of the games was that students got to meet people from different places.

The games start on March 5.
