Eagles get pre-eason edge over Dockers
Eagles get pre-eason edge over Dockers

West Coast have come away from their NAB Cup fixture with one win after dismantling Fremantle by 24 points at Patersons Stadium tonight.

The Eagles hit the lead early and never looked back in the 1.4.7 (40) to 0.2.4 (16) win.

Eagles recruit Sharrod Wellingham made his debut in their second game of the night, with the club resting Mark LeCras, Will Schofield, Adam Selwood, Darren Glass and Luke Shuey.

Fremantle made only two changes, bringing on debutant Jack Hannath in place of Aaron Sandilands and forward Josh Mellington for the injured Chris Mayne.

The Eagles hit the scoreboard first when Matt Priddis was awarded a free kick in the forward 50, but then wasted several opportunities to put the game away early.

Rookie forward Jeremy McGovern finally goaled after the club kicked four straight behinds, but it was Shannon Hurn’s booming super goal on the seven minute mark which really put Fremantle under pressure.

A late goal to Hayden Ballantyne on the back of some Stephen Hill brilliance gave the Dockers some hope leading into the halftime break.

It was more of the same in the second term, with Masten hitting the scoreboard early as the Eagles continued to deny their opponents access to the forward 50.
