A former supplier of nutritional supplements to the Fremantle Football Club has been prosecuted and fined $3.1 million for unlawfully importing unregistered substan-ces, according to Fairfax Media.

The Age reported last night that Federal Court records show Export Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd was last year found guilty of 35 unlawful importations between 2007 and 2008.

The company is the parent of sports nutrition business Nutrition Systems. Its director is Perth fitness identity Danny Pavlovich.
Nutrition Systems was originally contracted to sponsor the Dockers between 2008 and 2011.

A club spokesman said the deal ended in 2009. There is no suggestion any Fremantle players have used illegal substances. Nor is there any suggestion Nutrition Systems supplied banned substances to the club.

Justice Nye Perram found Export Corporation’s unlawful imports were not the result of a systematic plan but more likely “an error of systems control”.

In its defence, the company said it had misunderstood an import consultant’s advice.
