Quick thinking foils two hold-ups

It was a bad night for thugs in Perth last night, with two armed hold-ups foiled by quick-thinking workers.

About 11.15pm, a taxi pulled up in Renshaw Boulevard, Clarkson to pick up a fare.

Two young men opened the rear doors, before a third man opened the driver’s door and demanded money.

He was brandishing what the driver believed to be a gun.

The driver then slammed his door into the man and managed to drive away as the trio launched a useless pursuit.

The offenders were described as between 15 and 17 years old.

Two of the men were fair skinned with slim builds and the other was heavily built with an olive complexion.

About 11.30pm in Beckenham, two men tried to hold up a service station on Railway Parade.

One man waited outside as his accomplice entered the service station and started threatening staff with a machete.

As he continued shouting at the workers behind the counter, they walked into their office and locked the door.

The offenders eventually left the premises empty handed and were last seen heading towards Beckenham train station on their bicycles.
