Police have charged a man over an armed robbery in almost 20 years ago after he went to a police station yesterday and confessed.

It is alleged the 49-year-old Stirling man, who was 30 at the time of the robbery, entered a pharmacy on Albany Highway armed with a firearm on November 6, 1994.

The man allegedly demanded cash and drugs from a staff member, who handed over money.

He fled on foot.

Police say the man went to Cannington police station yesterday and asked to speak to detectives about the incident.

He has been charged with armed robbery and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court today.
