A 15-year-old boy has been flown back to the mainland after he was pulled from the water at Rottnest Island.

The boy was swimming at Parakeet Bay when he started to struggle in the water this morning about 11am.

He was brought to shore by charter vessel personnel and before emergency services arrived.

The 15-year-old was attended to by the Rottnest Island Nursing Post before boarding a Royal Flying Doctor Service PS12 aircraft about 11.40am.

He was taken by St John Ambulance from the RFDS base in Jandakot to Fremantle Hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
