60 hammerheads spotted off SW

A shiver of about 60 hammerhead sharks has been spotted about 800m off Bunker Bay.

The sharks were sighted from the South West rescue helicopter off the eastern end of the South West beach.

Earlier this morning, a 5m shark was seen about 50m from shore at the eastern end of the bay, called Boneyards.

Surf Life Saving WA says it is tracking the sharks.

Several sharks 3m to 5m in size have also been sighted at Rocky Point, Eagle Bay, where there was a dead whale on the beach.

The Department of Environment and Conservation and the Department of Fisheries are working to tow the whale to the nearest boat ramp, where the Shire of Busselton will pick it up to dispose of it.
