The man charged with murdering drug dealer Stephen Ramon Cookson has appeared in court and has been remanded.

Aaron Carlino, 28, of Guildford, appeared in court this morning where he was not required to enter a plea.

A group of supporters was in the court for Mr Carlino's appearance but they declined to comment outside court.

Mr Carlino, dressed in a grey T-shirt and blue pants, did not say anything apart from indicating that he understood the charge.

He was remanded in custoday to re-appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on February 6.

Mr Carlino was charged overnight by police investigating the discovery of Mr Cookson's head in a plastic bag washed up on Rottnest Island on January 6.
