Dockers rally behind Morabito

Fremantle players have rallied behind teammate Anthony Morabito as the unlucky midfielder comes to terms with his latest knee injury.

Morabito ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament for the third time at training on Wednesday and may never reach his full potential, according to leading sports doctor Peter Larkins.

It is the third time in as many years he had suffered the same injury, first during the 2011 pre-season then again in July last year.

Morabito, who is contracted to the end of the year, has not played an AFL game since 2010.

The 21-year-old has been give time by the Dockers to assess his options but experienced key defender Luke McPharlin said everyone at the club was impacted by the 21-year-old’s misfortune.

“It’s been a shock,” McPharlin said yesterday.

“Devastating news obviously for Anthony and it’s rippled through the club.

“Everyone is just aware of his well-being at this point in time.”

McPharlin said it had been important for the playing group to move forward after Morabito’s injury setback.

“It’s certainly a difficult time for him but fortunately this morning we were able to get ourselves up for another training session,” he said.

“Unfortunately in AFL football it’s business as usual albeit there will be a lot of care given to Anthony in the background.”
