A 31-year-old man has been charged over the death of a 28-year-old man following an incident in Shark Bay in the early hours of this morning.

Police allege the pair were involved in an altercation in the carpark of the Heritage Hotel about 2.20am.

The older man allegedly hit the 28-year-old, causing him to fall to the ground and be knocked unconscious.

Initial reports are that the victim may have hit his head on the bitumen.

The injured man was taken to Shark Bay Nursing Post but did not regain consciousness and was declared dead.

The 31-year-old man has been charged with grievous body harm.
