Bertram school fire suspicious

Police are treating as suspicious a bushfire in Perth's southern suburbs yesterday evening.

Last night, the Fire and Emergency Services Authority said the fire had been contained but not controlled. There was no threat to lives or homes.

The fire started near Bertram Primary School in the City of Kwinana at about 1.15pm and was moving along Johnson Road, towards Thomas Road.

Three helitacs and volunteer and career firefighters in 16 appliances worked to extinguish the blaze, which was moving fast in a north-easterly direction.

The cause of the fire is not known.

WA police, the Department of Environment and Conservation and Western Power were at the scene.

At 11.05am today the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Bushfire advice for the eastern part of Bertram and western part of Casuarina and southern part of Anketell in the City of Kwinana

A bushfire advice remained for people in an area east of the rail line in Bertram and west of Bombay Boulevard in Casuarina, extending north to Anketell Road in Anketell in Kwinana.

There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area.

"Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes," the department said.
