Man drowns during family camping trip

A family camping trip ended in tragedy yesterday when a 67-year-old man drowned at a remote beach 100km east of Esperance.

Emergency services received a call just after 3pm that a man had died at Alexander Bay off the south coast of WA.

Esperance police, State Emergency Service volunteers and volunteer paramedics attended.

A police spokeswoman said it was still unclear how the man drowned.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

In a separate incident, Rockingham sea rescue volunteers rescued two people after their boat flipped near Garden Island about 5.45pm.

It is understood the pair onboard called for help when the vessel began taking on water. The boat then apparently capsized.

Police said the two onboard the boat were now safe.
