Man airlifted after crash near York

A man is being airlifted to Perth after his car collided with a tree in Gildgering, south of York this morning.

The crash occurred about 6.40am on Great Southern Highway near the intersection of Sandgate Road.

Emergency services worked to free the man from the wreckage for about an hour.

The RAC Rescue helicopter was dispatched to take the man to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

It is believed he has a broken arm and possible spinal injuries.
