An early morning blitz on Perth's freeways has led police to issue fines to 821 motorists this week.

Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan said 850 motorists were stopped during Operation Earlybird since Monday.

He told 6PR fines were issued for most traffic offences including speeding and talking on mobile phones.

Operation Earlybird has been conducted over recent years to target early morning motorists who believe their driving behaviour may escape scrutiny by police.
