Fremantle ruckman and new father Aaron Sandilands was fit and firing for his first day of pre-season with his teammates this morning.

Sandilands, who had a baby girl last week, joined training with the main group today after long break away from the club.

The big man said he was loving fatherhood but suffering from sleep deprivation.

“I am thoroughly enjoying it and mum and bub are both going very well,” he said.

“I am used to sleeping about 12 hours a day and bub is waking up every three or four so it is a learning curve for me.”

Sandilands revealed his daughter had not lived up to his giant proportions by being born a normal 2.3kg and 50cm.

After suffering turf toe on both his feet over the past two seasons, Sandilands said he was 100 per cent confident in the troublesome feet now.

“Having no injuries during the break I have been able to keep the running up and the body is feeling really good at the moment,” he said.

“It is the first time I have had a big break in the off-season and been able to do a fair amount of running so I am happy to be back out there and amongst the boys.”

Also joining the main group today were WAFL players Cam Symonds, Alex Howson, Callum Sinclair, Nick Rodda and Matthew Tabener, who are looking to impress the club ahead of the Rookie Draft.

“They joined in for the skills and they are all pretty big fellers and I thought they all moved really well and the running is hard at the end and I thought they did well to get through it,” Sandilands said.

“They are with us for the week and it is a great opportunity for these guys to come down and train with us and learn as much as they can.”

Jonathon Griffin, Michael Johnson, Paul Duffield, Lee Spurr, Stephen Hill, Josh Mellington and Kepler Bradley did not join in with the main group this morning while Anthony Morabito did some boxing work away from the track.

There was no sign of young Star Nat Fyfe during the main session while fellow midfielders David Mundy and Michael Barlow trained strongly in a great sign for the club.
