Police are appealing for witnesses to a scooter crash in South Perth on Thursday that claimed the life of a teenager and injured his pillion passenger.

The crash happened about 4.45pm, when a white Mitsubishi Triton utility was travelling west on Mill Point Road.

The driver stopped just before the intersection of Hovia Terrace because of vehicles stopping in front of them and an orange Bolwell scooter hit the back of the utility.

The rider of the scooter, an 18-year-old Kensington man, and his 15-year-old passenger were taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

The older boy later died from his injuries.

Anyone who may have seen the vehicles in the area before the crash or the crash itself is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
