The West Australian's cartoonist Dean Alston has taken out a 2012 Stanley Award - one of the highest honours in Australian cartooning.
Alston, who has been drawing for The West for more than 25 years, picked up the award for Best Single Gag cartoon at the awards ceremony in Newcastle on Saturday night.
It is the cartoonist's second Stanley Award - he took out the same category in 2003.
Alston, who was named West Australian of the Year for arts and culture in June, has won a string of awards during his career, including a 1991 Walkley Award for Best Cartoon.
While his cutting caricatures have earned him the wrath of many public figures, Alston remains the State's best-known cartoonist, with several books published featuring his work.
