A woman has died after falling from a vehicle and being run over by a trailer in Muchea this morning.

The 61-year-old woman was a passenger in a Toyota Hilux utility which was towing a boat on a trailer travelling south on the Great Northern Highway at about 3.15am when the accident occurred.

Police say driver was slowing down to prepare to pull over when the woman fell from the car and was run over by the trailer, suffering fatal injuries.

A police spokeswoman said it is not yet known how she came to fall out of the vehicle.

Police have called for people who saw the crash or vehicle before the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police are particularly interested in speaking to the driver of a semi trailer truck who was travelling behind the utility.
