UPDATE: A woman has been killed after a traffic accident in Mt Lawley this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Learoyd Street and Walcott Street about 3.35pm.

Major Crash investigators said the woman had been driving her blue Holden Barina north along Walcott Street when she hit the back of a red BMW. The two drivers exchanged details and as the woman returned to her car she was hit by a white van.

Police are investigating whether the woman had been in the middle of the road at the time she was hit to move her son out of danger.

Initial reports suggested a young boy was also injured in the accident but police have since said he was physically unharmed despite being taken from the scene in an ambulance.

The intersection was closed for some time but has since been cleared.

St John Ambulance attended the scene.

Police are asking witnesses to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
