Police have raided two properties in Kewdale and Welshpool uncovering a car rebirthing operation potentially valued at $400,000.

Officers from the gang crime squad on behalf of serious and organised crime squad division executed the search warrants on a residential home on Knutsford Avenue and a car detailing shop front on Welshpool Road this morning.

Police towed away four Toyota Prado vehicles from the Knutsford Avenue home.

Another three Prados are being examined by police at the car detailing workshop.

It is understood those involved were purchasing Prado wrecks only to then steal other Prado cars and strip them of their parts to illegally rebuild the cars.

Each vehicle was then sold privately, many through online classified websites to unsuspecting members of the public for approximately $60,0000, giving the group a potential $25,000 profit per car.

It is believed the operation began after a number of drivers reported purchasing the lemons following car services.
