A 23-year-old man has died in what appears to be a freak accident after falling from his skateboard in Bicton last night.

The young man is believed to have struck his head when he fell from the board about 6:45pm on Braunton Street, just down from the Swan River foreshore.

He was taken by ambulance to Fremantle hospital but later died of his injuries.

It is not known if the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the fall.
