Three hit by car in Broome

Three men have been injured after being hit by a car in Broome overnight.

The incident followed an argument which broke out between the 48-year-old driver of a Toyota Landcruiser and a group of people walking from Cable Beach.

The driver was about to leave the area, turning right onto Gantheaume Point Road, when he turned his vehicle around and drove back towards the group.

A short time after, a 20-year-old man was hit by the car and sustained a broken leg. His 28-year-old and 24-year-old male friends also received lacerations and abrasions after it is believed they have tried to help their friend but were dragged a short distance by the vehicle.

All three victims were taken to Broome Hospital by ambulance.

The 20-year-old man will be flown to Perth for further medical treatment.

The 48-year-old driver of the Landcruiser is helping police with their inquiries, and has been released pending further investigation.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the men or the vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
