Perth's style set and special guest former Spice Girl Mel B braved rain and strong winds today as they arrived at the annual Myer Spring Summer Fashion Luncheon.

The event – which is part of the 14th Perth Fashion Festival – got off to a frantic start with more than 350 fashionistas rushing to make their way into the State Reception Centre in Kings Park during a torrential downpour.

Plans for a pre-event garden party were scrapped when the heavens opened as the clock struck 12.

Despite the stormy weather, the fashion theme of the day was spring-appropriate bright colours, short skirts and high heels.

Decked out in a white jacket by local designer Betty Tran, X Factor judge Mel B sat between festival director Tony Sage and her husband Stephan Belafonte on a table with Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi.

She was delighted to catch up with fellow Brit and celebrity guest Kris Smith, who later took to the catwalk in a series of looks for the two runway showcases containing the latest Spring/Summer 2013 Collections and racing trends from a host of designers including local fashion king Aurelio Costarella, Arthur Galan AG, ELLERY, Jayson Brunsdon and Morrison.

The room erupted with screams every time the 34-year-old Manchester-born Myer menswear ambassador emerged in a new outfit and even more so when he took part in an interview on stage.

However, the former rugby star – who is the estranged partner of Dannii Minogue – still managed to fit in time to sit and enjoy the main course next to Costarella.

Following the Myer event – which sold out in less than a week – Mel B and Belafonte were due to head to Fashion Paramount at the WA Museum to sit front row for the annual WA Designer Collections showcase.

It is a whirlwind visit for the star, who will head back to Sydney tomorrow for the next round of the X Factor's live shows.
