Man charged over Northbridge attack

A 24-year-old Balga man has been charged over the brutal bashing of an Irishman in Northbridge at the weekend.

Police arrested and charged the man last night in relation to the violent attack, which happened on Palmerston Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 27-year-old victim had been smoking a cigarette on a veranda outside a friend's home about 3.30am when he was approached by his attackers.

He suffered serious facial injuries.

A police spokesman said information from the public had helped police locate a man and a woman who were allegedly linked to the incident.

The accused has been charged with aggravated stealing with violence.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court this morning.

The woman was released without charge.

Police are still searching for a second man who was present during the altercation.

The spokesman said police knew the identity of the man and hoped to locate him soon.
