Feral Brewing Company's Brendan Varis is celebrating another success after he was invited to be a guest brewer at the prestigious J.D. Wetherspoon's 2012 International Beer Festival in Britain.

The only Australian brewer selected to take part in the competition, Mr Varis will recreate his India Pale Ale Hop Hog at the ancient Marston's Burton-on-Trent brewery.

Asked about the inspiration behind Hop Hog, Mr Varis said it stemmed from self-indulgence.

"It has a character I like to drink myself," he said.

With its strong pine needle and citrus aroma, Hop Hog was a winner at the Hong Kong International Beer Festival recently.

Feral Brewing Company, situated in the Swan Valley, celebrates its 10th anniversary next month.

Mr Varis began brewing after a trip to the US more than a decade ago when he visited craft breweries along the west coast. Inspired by what he saw, he returned to Australia and decided to switch from a degree in science to fermentation and brewing.
