No matter how many accolades designer Alvin Fernandez receives for his label Ae'lkemi, he still considers it an honour to show his collection at the Perth Fashion Festival.
The two-time WA Designer of the Year winner, who has sent his elegant designs down catwalks in New York and Milan, was one of only four designers selected by the Festival to hold a solo show this year.
Fernandez said the event would give him a chance to show his gratitude to his supporters.
"It's nice to give our clients and fans a thankyou," he said.
"They have been so good to us. It's also a nice creative outlet for the team to show in front of our peers."
Ae'lkemi will present its spring/summer 2012-13 collection at Fashion Paramount at the WA Museum on September 23 in a runway presentation that aims to play out like an epic movie.
Titled Lumiere, the collection revolves around things that sparkle in the light, plus silhouettes in shades of tangerine, coral and French navy splashed with metallics and embellishments.
Fernandez said his team was still working on the perfect finale piece. "That's still sitting on a table but we'll get there eventually," he said.
"Last year's finale piece we only picked up two hours before the show. We are trying for a day before this time."
Last year's acclaimed breakthrough solo show at PFF, called Jungle Fever, was everything identifiably Ae'lkemi - glamorous evening wear and vivid prints.
The finale gown, a white beaded and feathered creation, drew gasps.
Despite having shown at international fashion weeks, Fernandez has his sights set on a project close to home when the PFF is over.
He said his immediate goal was to look at opening a flagship store for his men's line ae'men.
"I've been missing doing menswear, to be honest, so it would be nice to get back in there again," Fernandez said.
