Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has moved to embrace the passion of Fremantle fans as he prepares his team for Friday night’s cut throat semi-final against Adelaide.

Lyon, known for his business as usual approach to coaching and for keeping a lid on things, said his approach did not mean that he wanted to see restraint from the fans. He just needed them to understand what was required from the players.

The Dockers coach stressed that his team had not achieved anything yet in the wake of its ground breaking 16-point elimination final win against Geelong at the MCG on Saturday – the first away final the club has won.

Dockers fans were at Perth Airport to welcome Lyon’s team home when they returned to Perth on Sunday. Lyon said he welcomed the show of passion.

"They are passionate about the club," he said.

"It is great to see support for the Dockers. We are here and we represent our members and fans. To see them that enthusiastic and passionate, that is the sort of footy we want to play. We want to be passionate and reflect our membership and fans."

"They are special times for them. You have got to work hard to get there so it is fantastic for them and it is great to see. You get a real feeling of what it means to be a part of the Dockers."

Lyon again stressed it was important to view the win against the cats for what it was rather than trying to turn it into a "watershed" moment for the club.

"I understand it was a significant win and it allows us to progress and it builds belief and confidence but it was no more or less than that," he said.

"We don’t want to keep a lid on our fans and their enthusiasm, we love that and we acknowledge that our player group is pretty excited as well."

"But what we have got to do is continue to prepare really well because that is what we have been doing all year."
