Eagles put Lynch back in the queue
Eagles put Lynch back in the queue

Forward Quinten Lynch has been returned to the West Coast squad as an insurance package for Sunday's elimination final with North Melbourne at Patersons Stadium.

Lynch has been named in a 25-man squad as doubts linger over the fitness of fellow key forward Josh Kennedy.

But it was disappointing news for defender Mitch Brown, who was the only Eagle dropped from the team that lost to Hawthorn last Friday. Brown made way for the return of Eric Mackenzie, who missed the final round because of hamstring tightness.

Kennedy hurt an ankle in the clash with the Hawks and there were concerns he would be in doubt for the sudden-death final.

West Coast coach John Worsfold was confident earlier in the week Kennedy didn't have a serious complaint, unlike the ankle injury that has ruined much of his 2012 season, but the Eagles are taking the cautious approach by adding a ready-made replacement in Lynch to their list.

Lynch last played for West Coast in the round 21 fixture with Port Adelaide.

However, there is also speculation that on a dry day - the forecast is for a fine day with a maximum temperature of 27C, after a similar day on Saturday - Lynch could operate in a forward line that also contains Kennedy and Jack Darling.

The Eagles named Ashton Hams and Bradd Dalziell in an extended squad that will be cut by three players tomorrow afternoon.

North Melbourne added WA product Daniel Wells, Nathan Grima and Sam Wright to the team that defeated Greater Western Sydney in the final home-and-away round.
