WA's Nicholls through to K1 semifinals

WA's Alana Nicholls is closer to pushing for an Olympic Games medal after advancing to the next round of the K1 200m kayak event at Eton Dorney.

Competing in the last of the four heats, Nicholls finished second in her race to easily advance to the semifinals, which will be held in about an hour.

Nicholls clocked 42.453secs to be behind Japan's Shinobu Kitamoto (42.007s)

Hungary's Natasa Douchev-Janics was the fastest qualifier in 41.221s. Nicholls was seventh on the list.

It is the first time the women's K1 200m event has been held at an Olympic Games.
