Is this the greatest shot in Olympic women’s basketball history?

With her team facing defeat and with little more than a second left on the shot clock in the preliminary round clash between Australia and France, Opals veteran Belinda Snell threw up a shot in hope of sending the match into overtime.

Snell released the ball well beyond the half-court line with a two-handed flick and the crowd at the London 2012 basketball arena watched the sphere sail all the way to the basket to give Australia another chance of victory.

She did get some help from the backboard but the Opals were willing to take the points.

Unfortunately, while the Australians were able to extend the battle with France in overtime, they couldn’t avoid a painful defeat with key playmakers Lauren Jackson and Liz Cambage fouling out of the contest before the final buzzer.

Snell finished the match with seven points.

Tell us what you think of Snell’s shot.
