Opposition Leader Mark McGowan has promised a $45 million new train station in Atwell if Labor wins next year's State election.

The station would be built on the Kwinana Freeway near the Gibbs and Russell roads exit and would service commuters on the Mandurah line between Cockburn central station and Kwinana. It will include a park and ride facility that would initially cater for about 900 cars.

"This is a growing area, there are new houses with families - they are needy people who need this access to the city," Mr McGowan said.
