Nyepi celebrations in Bali

All over Bali on March 21, 2015, the Balinese will see out the old year with riotous Ngrupuk parades of huge ogoh-ogoh monsters. Then all will go quiet on Nyepi, the holiest day of the year, when no planes land or depart, lights are dimmed, shops, bars and restaurants are closed, locals stay home to reflect and travellers must remain in their accommodation. The West Australian’s Neil Devey holidayed with his family in Bali during Nyepi this year and witnessed the Seminyak parade.
