Green puts muscle to the message

Former world champion boxer Danny Green isn't afraid to put himself in harm's way, but he says he would never get behind the wheel after drinking.

A passionate supporter of Seven West Media's Pledge for Nate campaign, the Green Machine said drink-driving ruined lives.

"I am active in telling my family and friends not to drink-drive and have been for a long time," he said. "Everyone knows it's the wrong thing to do and it's dangerous and irresponsible, so why put yourself in that position?"

Green, a 40-year-old father of two, said he was moved by the tragic story of Nate Dunbar, the eight-month-old who was killed when a drunk driver smashed into his bedroom in January.

"If I have something at my house, no one drives home if they've had drinks," he said.

"You take their keys and say, 'No, you're not driving' or 'I'll call you a cab'.

"It might put them out of pocket or be a hassle, but big deal. He or she is going to wake up in the morning and they wouldn't have risked anyone's life."
