It was only a few months ago that Perth got its own dedicated correspondent on ratings-winning breakfast show Sunrise.

But now the Seven program is set to hone in even more on local viewers, with the announcement that WA will get a live news service every morning starting from today.

In addition to the national news with Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr, Perth correspondent Matt Tinney will now deliver the morning’s local news in a dedicated mini bulletin at 7am.

“It will give people the latest in one hit, so before they get on with their day they will know what’s going on in WA,” Tinney explains toAAA .

Joining him on the early-morning shift will be Seven News Perth’s Rebecca Picton-King, pictured right with Tinney, who will help put the bulletin together.

Picton-King will be in safe hands in the Sunrise family, if Tinney’s experience as WA’s first-ever correspondent on the show is anything to go by.

“Even though the main crew is in Sydney we have a great relationship, we chat every morning,” Tinney says.

“It’s been great to get those stories in WA not only to the State but also out to the rest of the nation — anything from soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder to woman in Heathridge who has a miniature pig that lives in her house.”

Sunrise, which is helmed by co-hosts Samantha Armytage and David Koch, airs on Seven from 6-9am weekdays.
