Brits Will and Steve win MKR final

In one of the most nailbiting finales to date, British lads Will Stewart and Steve Flood have walked away with the My Kitchen Rules crown.

Just two points separated the NSW duo from their fellow finalists, Queensland cousins Jac Bakhash and Shaz Sellings, making them the first all-male team in the Seven show’s history to take out top honours.

For their ultimate challenge, the two teams battled the clock to prepare a five-course degustation menu consisting of 100 dishes to serve to the judging panel, the eliminated contestants and the finalists’ families.

Judge Pete Evans predicted it would be a tight race to the finish line, with Stewart and Flood’s creativity and technique going up against Bakhash and Sellings’ method of home cooking from the heart.

For both pairs it was possibly the most important meal they had cooked in their lives, but it was the English expats who walked away $250,000 richer after they impressed with their attention to detail and use of unexpected ingredients.

Their main of red mullet with Jerusalem artichoke and basil floored judge Manu Feildel, who said it was the one dish from the whole competition that he was likely to “remember for all time”.

Likewise, Stewart and Flood’s unique take on peaches and cream for dessert was called “out of this world” by Feildel and a “masterpiece” by Evans.

The former investment bankers were awarded an overall score of 52 out of a possible 60 points for their menu, while Bakhash and Sellings were just behind on 50 points.

Clearly stoked with their victory, Flood said it was “astounding” they had made it all the way to the end.

“This is the start of something big for us,” the 31-year-old said.

“We are going to go out there and chase our big dream.”

The men said they were keen to turn their passion for food into a full-time endeavour now they had won the title.
