Tony Robinson’s Tour of Duty

TODAY, 4.30PM, HISTORY

British historian Sir Tony Robinson covers a lot of ground during his 10-stop Trans Tasman road show uncovering various facets of Australia and New Zealand’s war history.

Starting in Toowomba, Queensland, Robinson visits a sprawling property that was once home to the famous 11th Light Horse Regiment before stopping by the grounds of the town’s Mother’s Memorial, erected in 1922 to honour the men who died during WWI.

Putting the post-war impact into perspective, Robinson chats with WWII veteran Bert Miles, who lost many comrades while stationed at Milne Bay in Papua New Guinea in 1942, and Afghanistan veteran Anthony Jones who since being back home has suffered from PTSD.

WA also gets a look-in, with Robinson visiting Fremantle Prison later in the series.
