Perth teen Sydnee Carter has found an unlikely fan in Ashton Kutcher.

The 16-year-old, who has so far made it to the top nine on The X Factor, seemingly caught the attention of the Hollywood star when he mentioned her in a tweet to his 16.4 million followers yesterday.

"Sydnee Carter I'm a fan of #Australia but you just took it up a notch. #beautiful"," Kutcher wrote.

He then shared a link to his website which featured a video of Carter's original audition for the Seven show, where she rendered the judges speechless with a haunting performance of Youth by Daughter.

Under the headline "you will be stunned by this 16-year-old's X-Factor audition", the video was accompanied by the comment that American audiences were "missing out on an amazing talent".

Kutcher also copied the link to his Facebook account, which gained almost 20,000 likes less than 10 hours after it was posted.

Carter, of Wanneroo, told Access All Areas of her shock to find the Two and a Half Men actor had mentioned her.

"I woke up this morning and I checked my phone and I was like holy moly," she said. Carter added she went to find her mum, screaming: "Ashton Kutcher shared my audition, oh my God!"

The star's endorsement might give the Sacred Heart College student the boost she needs to get ahead on the reality talent search.

In week three of the live shows, Carter found herself in the bottom two and while she was spared from elimination, she was still an outsider to win the competition in odds published by online bookmaker Sportsbet last week.
