The West

  • Wild Vets *

This is the third season of the most entertaining, endearing, and heart-wrenching television - just what you get when you mix committed humans with vulnerable animals. Has there ever been a show about animals which failed to stir the emotions? I think not. If doctors generally appear heroic in saving lives, so do vets - even more so because their patients can't describe their symptoms. These vets work with zoo animals and endangered birds, which tonight leads Kate McInnes to take us on a hunt for great spotted Kiwi eggs. Her colleagues are working with kiwis, takahes and moreporks, a mopoke with a New Zealand accent. I made that last bit up. There are also baby lions, a new giraffe which is all legs, and you will meet Pixie the penguin. What's not to love?
