Soap heart-throb turns up the heat
Steve Peacocke.

Now that he has a Logie under his belt, Home and Away actor Steve Peacocke only feels more compelled to turn the heat up on Seven's long-running soap.

The 31-year-old, right, first hit Summer Bay early last year as Darryl "Brax" Braxton, the eldest brother of surf gang The River Boys, and his popularity with fans was cemented when he took out the 2012 Logie for Most Popular New Male Talent in April.

In the middle of several gripping storylines that have pushed the star to his limits, Peacocke tells _Access All Areas _ he feels a duty to constantly better his performances after the win.

"Knowing people had gone to all that effort to vote for me kind of made me want to keep doing my best work," he says.

"The writers and producers have given us River Boys really great storylines so I want to repay their faith."

Peacocke's strong work ethic stems in part from his pre-Home and Away days, where he worked a variety of odd jobs to make ends meet while searching for his big break. The heart-throb credits his girlfriend, actress Bridgette Sneddon, for keeping him sane.

"We have been together for seven years so she has seen me through some pretty dry old gullies," he says.

"Before this job I was just a labourer, I didn't have much money to go around after I had paid my rent.

"She's happy to see that doing all the plays and going to all the auditions has finally paid off."

Even though Peacocke is firmly in the public eye, he is happy to remain a homebody after hours.

The Dubbo native says he has no interest in playing the fame game.

"I love my job more than anything, it's the greatest gift, but there's a lot of other stuff that goes on," Peacocke says.

"It's good Bridge isn't interested in that, too, so we can have our lives outside work, which are really private and boring to everyone else I'm sure."

Home and Away airs today at 7pm on Seven/GWN.
