Diesel was a mess on Furious set

Movie tough guy Vin Diesel says he felt embarrassed when he first returned to the set of Fast & Surious 7 following Paul Walker's death, because he couldn't stop crying.

Filming on the latest film in the blockbuster franchise was was postponed in November, 2013, after Walker was killed in a car crash.

When the shoot eventually resumed, Diesel says he was a mess.

"I'm supposed to be in killer mode. I went through three boxes of tissues, and I felt so embarrassed," he told Variety.com.

"I had always been the kind of actor that other actors respect. I was just failing so hard. My nose was running and my eyes were tearing. I had to walk off set and try to get all the fluids out. I couldn't contain my emotion ... It became the toughest film I ever had to shoot."

Walker's brothers Cody and Caleb agreed to help director James Wan complete the film by working as their late brother's stand ins.

Actress Jordana Brewster, who plays Walker's onscreen wife in the film, recently assured fans that they would be pleased with the ending of Furious 7, which serves as a tribute to Walker's memory.

Fast & Furious 7 will be released in Australian cinemas on April 2.
