Aussie music stars have started arriving at this year’s ARIA awards, greeted by hundreds of screaming fans lining the black carpet.
In roasting temperatures, the crowd of excited fans, shielded by colourful umbrellas, welcomed Jessica Mauboy, Hilltop Hoods and last year’s X Factor winner Reece Mastin, as they walked the carpet this afternoon.
Mastin, who is nominated for Song of the Year said he’s tipping 360 to win big but is nervous about his own chances.
Minutes earlier, Timomatic kicked off the party dancing and singing down the carpet with his back-up dancers who flung themselves off a trampoline one by one.
Mauboy and the Hilltop Hoods lapped up the attention as the headed into the Sydney Entertainment Centre for the music industry’s night of nights.
Most of the fans came prepared, yielding banners made especially for the night’s biggest international guest stars Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj.
Fans, some of whom lined up from 10am, were buttered up before any stars had arrived, by giant Bananas in Pyjamas. Those keen for a cool treat lapped up ice-creams being sold at one stall set up among the crowds.
Justice Crew and Mauboy are also set to entertain the screaming fans on the carpet as part of the night’s raft of performances.
Wearing dark-coloured glasses, the tattooed Melbourne-based rapper, 360, said he wasn’t overly confident about his chances to take home an award.
"I just don’t see it to be honest," said 360, who is up for a number of awards including Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Male Artist and Best Australian Live Act.
"Gotye’s nominated for everything that I am," he said.
360, who is performing during the awards, said the audience will be in for "something pretty insane - it’s never been done before".
Missy Higgins said she was honoured to be back in the ARIA award race.
"It’s really nice to be nominated because it’s been so long," she said.
