Fremantle pop outfit San Cisco has scored an impressive three nominations in the 26th annual ARIA Awards, announced today in Sydney.
The young quartet, in line for the breakthrough artist, best pop release and best independent release gongs for hit single Awkward, was among the fresh faces making the cut for the Australian recording industry’s biggest backslap.
Melbourne rapper 360, real name Matt Colwell, leads the pack with six nominations, including album of the year for his platinum-selling second album, Falling and Flying.
Colwell also features in the best male artist category alongside Guy Sebastian, Matt Corby, Keith Urban, Angus Stone and last year’s winner Gotye, who received five nominations including the coveted album of the year for Making Mirrors.
Sydney rock band the Jezabels join Gotye on five nominations, with Adelaide hip-hop veterans Hilltop Hoods and country-blues singer Lanie Lane scoring four nominations each.
Currently on tour in the UK, San Cisco's first nominations in the annual awards is nice timing with their debut album due for release the week before the televised ceremony on November 29.
Other acts picking up three nominations included ARIA regulars Sebastian, Missy Higgins, the Temper Trap and Jessica Mauboy.
The 26th annual ARIA Awards will be held in Sydney on November 29.
