Pop superstar Pink is the latest big name to announce shows at the newly constructed Perth Arena.

A spokesperson for the Arena said this morning that Pink would perform at the venue on June 25 and 26 to kickstart her highly anticipated return to Australia for The Truth About Love Tour in 2013.

"Renowned around the world as one of the most dynamic live performers – and by far the most successful female touring and recording artist ever in the Australian market – Pink's 2009 Funhouse Tour was one of the biggest tours our country has ever seen," the spokesperson said.

Tickets for Pink's concert are expected to go on sale from 9am on Wednesday, October 17.

The announcement follows confirmation that George Michael has cancelled his Australian tour and will be replaced by Elton John as the opening act of Perth Arena.

Chugg Entertainment said yesterday that Sir Elton John and his band would be the first act to open the Arena, with a second Perth Concert on Saturday, November 10.

The event will be performed "Under The Stars" with the Arena roof open.

Elton John's other Perth concert, already sold out, is on Monday, November 12.

Tickets for the November 10 concert are due to go on sale from 9am on Wednesday, October 10.

Sir Elton John said: "My dear friend George Michael has been giving some amazing performances on the Symphonica tour, and I'm very sorry that he can't play the Perth concert. But I'm more than happy to step in for him and play the opening night at the brand new Perth Arena on November 10.

"It is a fabulous building and I'm told we can even have the roof open for our concert and play under the stars.

"My band and I will make absolutely sure that the Perth Arena has an unforgettable opening night, and we are looking forward to seeing the city come out in force to celebrate this stunning new building."

Promoter Michael Chugg said: "With one show already sold out and a long and successful touring history in Perth, we are thrilled to add one more show to Sir Elton's November tour and for this to be the official opening of the new Perth Arena.

"As one of the greatest entertainers in the music business, this will be an incredible show for the people of Perth and a very special milestone for Sir Elton."

Forty years ago, during April 1972, Elton John's single Rocket Man was released around the world. This concert tour will commemorate the 40 years since the release of Rocket Man as well as being a celebration of Elton John's greatest hits.

Fans can expect to see this timeless entertainer take them on a journey through his multi-decade career, promoters said.

Ticket holders for George Michael's Perth Arena concert have the option to use the ticket for the Elton John opening event or receive a full refund on the ticket.
