Rowling to script magic films
Harry Potter author *J.K. Rowling *has reportedly teamed up with Warner Bros to write a film trilogy based on the world of Harry Potter.
Rowling, below, will turn her 2001 wizard textbook Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them into three movies, according to The New York Times.
Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them is all about the magical creatures in the Harry Potter universe. The first in the new film series has been described at "neither a prequel or a sequel to the Harry Potter series but an extension of the wizarding world".
Warner Bros boss *Kevin Tsujihara *said the three instalments would follow the adventures of Newt Scamander, a magical creatures expert known as a "magizoologist".
The story is set in New York, 70 years before the Potter series begins. Production and release dates are yet to be determined.
The Potter books spawned eight movies, starring *Daniel Radcliffe *as the young wizard, and raked in $US7.7 billion ($8.35 billion) worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film series of all time.
