Naomi Watts has reportedly signed on to portray another iconic British woman, this time in the biopic of Gertrude Bell alongside Robert Pattinson.
The Australian actress will star as Bell in Werner Herzbog's film Queen of the Desert, according to entertainment website The Hollywood Reporter.
Pattinson will play T E Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia, the website says.
Bell has been described as the female Lawrence of Arabia because of the impact she had in the Middle East and her work in establishing what would become the modern framework for Jordan and Iraq.
She was a writer, archaeologist, linguist and mountaineer. During World War I she worked for British intelligence.
Watts is currently filming the eagerly awaited biopic of Princess Diana.
The latest pictures from the set of Caught in Flight show Watts sporting a brunette wig in scenes in which she portrays the late royal during her so-called "undercover" days.
Diana reportedly put on a brunette wig when she met with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan at London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in order to keep their relationship a secret, according to UK's Mail Online.
Caught in Flight, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, is about the last two years of Diana's life before her death in Paris in 1997. It focuses on her relationships with Dr Khan and Dodi Fayed.
