They defied the odds by receiving perfect scores for their spacious main bedroom but, in a twist that surprised viewers across the nation, The Block's Josh Terrett and Charlotte Ekas left last night's room reveal empty-handed.

In a controversial move that shocked their fellow contestants, the show's producers disqualified the couple after they failed to include a bespoke bed created in a challenge weeks earlier.

While in previous seasons teams who failed to include challenge items merely lost one or two points at judging, the Sydneysiders were cut out of the running completely and their sizeable $10,000 prize money was awarded to Darren and Deanne Jolly, who placed second.

Determined to maintain their calm and collected demeanour, Terrett and Ekas made a conscious decision not to fly off the handle in front of the cameras over the ruling.

"We were thrilled to get the perfect score but we were stitched up a little bit," Ekas told AAA of their disqualification.

Terrett added: "I was pretty annoyed because we definitely needed the money for our stairs, kitchen and terrace. It was frustrating I guess but you just have to roll with the punches."

Despite their disqualification, the positive feedback provided a much-needed confidence boost for the 25-year-olds, who have taken weeks to hit their stride on the renovating series.

For Terrett, who was chastised by "Foreboy" and former contestant Dan Reilly over whether they would finish the large space by tools down, the amazing feedback proved particularly rewarding.

"I was really stoked because I got to stick it to Dan after he gave me so much negativity during the week," Terrett said.
