After an eight-month whirlwind romance, Broome playwright Dan Lee and Missy Higgins are set to make it official.

Lee announced his engagement to the Bran Nue Dae star on Facebook last month after popping the question to the ARIA award-winning singer in Broome.

While he remained tight-lipped on the details, Lee said the proposal was low-key. "It was very simple," he said. "Just a thing between us."

Lee is keeping the wedding details under wraps but said the couple, right, were "very excited" and didn't rule out a Broome wedding.

"I don't know when we'll get married," he said. "We haven't really started talking about how or when and all that stuff but that's quite possible . . . who knows?"

Lee relocated to Melbourne in October to be with Higgins but said the couple planned to make regular visits to his home town.

"We both have a great love of Broome; we've got a lot of friends in Broome," he said.

The couple began dating after Lee invited Higgins to sing with his Broome band, Cable Bitches.

Lee will return to WA this year to do some workshopping on his play, which is scheduled to hit the stage in Broome next year.
